DSLR Mount & T adaptor

To have a stab at some better bright object photos I have purchased a T adaptor ( specifics to your camera) and a barlow lens.

The barlow lens simply fits into the eyepiece focuser on the scope. Most cameras wont be able to focus without the barlow, this extends the distance to the cameras sensor.

These to parts were purchased at FLO. Link below

PHONE HOLDER

I would imagine the first thing people want to try is snap the moon. Its bright and easy to find! Dipping your toes into astro photography is usually made with a simple phone holder for attaching to your eyepiece.

I purchased this phone holder which works well in getting your lens just in the right spot.

This holder works well as a quick photo fix but at a later point I will buy an adaptor for my DSLR

Moon pics.

Pop your phone in pro mode. ISO 200 or as low as it will go, zoot up the MP and whack the shutter speed up to a point you’re getting good contrast. Set a time for 3 second to help stop any wobble when pressing the shoot button.

For simple editing to bring out some contrast I use snapseed or even Picasa3, nothing fancy!

For Dobsonian scopes there are gizzmos around that will help cancel the earths rotation.

I have no experience with them so can not offer any advice on how well they work.

You will struggle with a decent image of DSOs with an untrackable scope such as a Dobsonian. Objects whizz by pretty quick!

If astrophotography is something you may be interested in then an equatorial mount with a suitable scope mounted to it is a must. Keep this in mind when choosing a scope.

Phone holder

When set up correctly the phone holder combo takes surprisingly good images of the moon.

If you’re a whizz at photo editing then I would imagine you could get some really amazing shots!
